Central Queensland jazz lovers will get a rare opportunity to see and hear
one of Australia’s most awarded and admired jazz singers, Michelle Nicolle,
in April. The Melbourne-based arranger, band leader and award-winning jazz
vocalist is rapidly becoming known as Australia’s finest jazz singer.
She is an exceptionally talented woman who sounds like no other. She is true
to her artistic self and has an incredible ‘ear’ as well as being
a serious jazz musician and lyricist. Her clear tone and impressive breath
control indicate hard work and dedication to her art form. In 2000 her quartet
was nominated for Australian Music Foundation’s Best Live Jazz Act and
Michelle was the recipient the Australian entertainment industry’s Mo
Award -Jazz Vocalist of the Year 2001, 2003 and 2004. While she is based in
Australia, Michelle spends much of her time travelling the world performing
at jazz clubs and festivals in Europe and Asia, where she has developed a huge

Haven, and settles down to write her autobiography. She is successful in turning
aside the offers pressed on her by her long-time agent, but dealing with her
nosy, omnipresent neighbours is a different matter.

Dead Letter Circus to Headline at Rockfest 09

The word is out – one of Australia’s hottest up and coming bands
will front Rockfest 09 at the Rockhampton Music Bowl in April.
The four piece group from Brisbane formed in 2005 and have been gaining a solid
reputation and a huge fan base ever since. Dead Letter Circus has released
two EPs, one self titled and the other Next In Line.
The band have been in the recording studio in recent times putting the finishing
touches to their first album, due for release in May. They have performed with
bands such as The Butterfly Effect, Cog, Karnivool, and Helmet. They recently
opened for heavy metal icon Judas Priest for the
Brisbane leg of the tour.
Dead Letter Circus will be joined on stage by local bands. Epidemic...Over,
The Shortfall, The Silence, Devoid, The Origin Complex, and Living Life in
Animation.
Rockfest will be held at the Rockhampton Music Bowl on Saturday April 4 from
5pm. Entry is free but donations to charity are requested. Food and drink will
be on sale. Rockfest is a drug and alcohol free event.

Set in 1930s Germany, in a world on the verge of collapse, Kander and Ebb’s
award-winning musical Cabaret is Rockhampton Venues and Events’ 2009
musical. While the storm clouds of nazism gather, young English singer Sally
Bowles performs as the star attraction in the nightclub, the Kit Kat
Klub in Berlin. In this haven of decadence, where the customers are determined
to keep up appearances while their world crumbles about them, she begins a
romance with novelist Clifford Bradshaw.
Cabaret won eight Tony Awards its original season and has continued to win
awards and critical and audience acclaim. It is a triumph of musical theatre,
full of captivating songs including Wilkommen, Two Ladies, Tomorrow Belongs
to Me and Cabaret. Central Queensland’s own singers, dancers and actors,
star in this unforgettable musical. Presented by Rockhampton Regional
Council.

Local vintage train enthusiasts are getting all steamed up with news that
tickets will go on sale on Monday (February 23) for day trips in Queensland’s
heritage train, the Q150 train, when it pulls into Rockhampton Railway Station
in April and May.
Between April and August, the train will travel as far north as Cairns and
as far west as Mt Isa, Winton, and Quilpie, visiting many stops in between.
It will reach Rockhampton in April and again in May, giving an opportunity
for
the public get on board a working piece of history.
Passengers can choose from:
Monday April 20 and Tuesday April 21 - Rockhampton to Bajool. Approx 1.5 hrs
return journey.
Saturday May 23 - Rockhampton to Lakes Creek or Rockhampton to Gracemere. Approx
1 hr return journey.
