Bangarra Dance Theatre
True Stories

Choreographers: Elma Kris, Frances Rings
Set Design: Genevieve Dugard
Costume Design: Jennifer Irwin
Lighting: Glenn Hughes
Composers: Steve Francis (Emeret Lu) and David Page (X300)
True Stories is Bangarra Dance Theatre’s thrilling new double bill,
featuring Emeret Lu & X300.
Emeret Lu is the first work dancer / choreographer Elma Kris has
created for Bangarra. Kris travelled to Murray Island in the Torres
Strait
to ask permission from the Indigenous elders to share the island’s traditional
songs and stories through dance, and the result is a brilliant combination
of traditional and contemporary dance. Meaning “very old things” Emeret
Lu celebrates rain, wind, hunting and the little-known Torres Strait
Island culture.
From acclaimed choreographer Frances Rings, the creator of Unaipon,
performed at the Pilbeam Theare in 2006, comes X300, a work about
healing. It’s
a journey back to country, a chance to rejuvenate and heal old wounds.
X300, the codename for the British nuclear test site at Maralinga in
the 1950s,
is a powerful interpretation of the stories of desolation of the land
and its people.
“ This is compelling, enriching dance that takes us all to a deeper place
and a stronger connection.”

HIT Productions
David Williamson’s
The Club

Directed by Bruce Myles
Starring John Wood
From one of Australia’s most successful playwrights, David Williamson,
comes a story about egotism, commitment, power, jealousy and greed.
The Club covers the transition of Australian sport into Australian business.
The culture and rituals of an old football club are torn to shreds as
the mighty dollar takes over. As one player remarks “all we got for joining
was a guernsey and a pat the back. I’ve given the club ten years of
my life and all I’ve got in the bank is eighty dollars.”
Gold Logie winning actor John Wood (Blue Heelers) stars alongside a talented
cast consisting of Christopher Connelly, Guy Kable, Denis Moore, Christopher
Parker and Simon Wilton.
Rarely do we see such fine talent performing an iconic piece of Australian
theatre.“… The Club belongs to the one-time jock, played with
finesse by John Wood. He’s an excellent stage actor with the technique
and presence to make an audience believe in the person he’s pretending
to be.”

Queensland Ballet presents
Carmen

Music Georges Bizet
Choreography François Klaus
Set Design Graham Maclean
Costume Design Noelene Hill
Lighting Design David Walters
Bizet’s powerful Spanish rhythms underscore the story of Carmen in
this sensational production from Queensland Ballet. She is a fiery gypsy
whose wild allure proves too strong for the soldier, Don José, to
resist, but Carmen’s defiant spirit cannot be captured by any man.
She would rather submit to her tragic fate than relinquish her freedom.
With evocative staging and thrilling dance that echoes with the stirring
flamenco tradition, François Klaus’s dramatic ballet unfolds
amidst the exciting sights and sounds of Spain. Carmen will draw you into
the dangerous world of a woman who lived and died by her own rules.
“… performed by the whole company with technical skill, passion and
a commitment to the drama.”
